Staying true to yourself

ਬੰਦੇ ਖੋਜੁ ਦਿਲ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ ਨਾ ਫਿਰੁ ਪਰੇਸਾਨੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
O human being, search your own heart every day, and do not wander around in confusion.
ਇਹ ਜੁ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਿਹਰੁ ਮੇਲਾ ਦਸਤਗੀਰੀ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
This world is just a magic-show; no one will be holding your hand.
~ Ang 727 ~

There are times in our lives when the roars of the world start to drown out the whispers of our soul, where we begin to let the world define what a successful, happy, positive life looks like from the outside whilst ignoring our inner voice that encourages us to build a life that feels good on the inside. We start to compare our lives with those around us and focus on everything we have yet to accomplish instead of being grateful for everything we have already achieved. There comes a point where you have to create your own definition of what the ideal life looks and feels like for you.

It’s important to strive to seek alignment with the source within, that’s where your power resides. No one but yourself can teach you how to cut through the layers of societal conditioning. Remember God made you the way you are in order for you to become the person you need to be, to travel on the journey of life He has planned for you. Don’t let other people get inside your head and convince you that there is something wrong with you just because you don’t measure up to their version of society’s norms.

You won’t have to change yourself to fit in where you belong. The more you accept the way you are, the happier you will be. Sometimes this will mean you just have to take a step back from people and focus on yourself. Be aware of those that only associate with you when they feel like it and notice how small your circle actually is. You will lose many people along the way but find more of yourself. Be mindful of the energy around you, it either inspires or drains you, so choose wisely. God’s got your back no matter what and will bring you the kind of people who accept you the way you are, support you and add to your growth. Work on yourself, everything else will fall into place the way it’s meant to.

Being happy in your own company is the foundation to inner peace. A valuable lesson to be learned in life as then you will never have to rely on anyone else for happiness and contentment, instead you will realise that you always have the power to manifest it from within. When you depend on people to build you up, they’ll have the same power to break you down.

It’s a blessing to have good people around you but sometimes there is purpose in disconnecting from the external world to spend quality time with God exploring your inner self amidst sangat in His sanctuary. It’s important to be mindful what foundations you are building in life because if everything falls apart, that’s what you will be working with to build yourself back up from.

When you begin to get access to just a glimpse of the peace within, external energy will no longer have the same impact on you. You will hold the power going forward. The path will get difficult, confusing and lonely but if you hold on to the resolve to keep going you will find something far bigger and brighter than you ever thought existed. You will realise how much you are gaining by losing everything that doesn’t align with your purpose. When you’re at peace within yourself you become at peace with everything that’s happening around you. The deeper you travel within the realm of yourself, the more lost you will become but that realisation will start to comfort you and that’s when your journey will truly begin.

Forgive yourself for not knowing what you didn’t know until you lived through it and learned from it. Honor your path, trust the process and be kind to yourself. You will find the right people, along the way on this journey of life, those that encourage you to be the best version of yourself, when you stay true to yourself and trust God with your life.
